Starting Oct 9, there will be lane closures on Hwy 55 (Broad Street) while Duke works on poles/wiring for our Christmas lights- click for more
Duke Energy crews will be working in Oriental beginning Friday, October 9, to install new electrical receptacles and upgrade associated wiring that supports the Town's seasonal holiday lighting displays.
The most significant work will take place along Broad Street between the Oriental Mini Mart and the foot of the bridge. Residents and visitors should expect 3-4 bucket trucks and rolling lane closures as crews work on one side of the roadway and then the other. A traffic control plan has been filed with NCDOT to help ensure public safety and maintain traffic flow during construction.
Additional work will be completed on Hodges Street and at other requested receptacle locations throughout town. All work is expected to be completed by October 16.
These upgrades will provide the Town with modernized electrical connections for holiday decorations and seasonal displays, while also creating infrastructure that can be maintained and repaired more efficiently in the future. Motorists are asked to use caution in work zones and plan for minor traffic delays during active construction.
Thank you for your patience as these improvements are completed.
