Birding is one of the fastest growing pastimes in the USA and there's nowhere better than here. Avid birders Liz Lathrop and Barbara Gould sport some serious bird-watching gear. (Photo ©2007 www.joelarrington.com)
Birding
Being a coastal area birding is a very exciting pastime here. The native species intermingle with the migratory species and make for wonderful observing opportunities. For the Carolina Bird Club's checklist of birds in North Carolina...click here.
Some say that birding is second only to gardening as America's most popular pastime, and it is certainly a fast-growing local pursuit.
Area resident Liz Lathrop (pictured above on left) leads groups on birding expetditions around the region and keeps local birders informed about a variety of birding events, such as the Christmas Bird Count. Contact Liz at Lizbirder@cconnect.net to get on her mailing list. She'll keep you up to date on local birding activites.
